Annapolis, MD – At this year’s Sail America Industry Meeting, Annapolis Boat Shows General Manager Sheila Jones presented the show’s Distinguished Service Award to Bill Currier, acknowledging his unselfish service to the overall advancement of the sailing industry.
Introduced by 2023 Distinguished Service winner Kerry Gonzales, the honor recognized Currier’s work as a founding member of the Young Cruisers Association, his leadership with the Chasing Bubbles Foundation, and his launch of the Sea People App.
The Chasing Bubbles Foundation, which empowers youth to pursue adventure, held its first charity yacht race this year, helmed by Currier.
“The first Chasing Bubbles Regatta brought together sailors of all skill levels aboard boats from around the globe,” Gonzales said.
Gonzales also pointed out the impact his app Sea People has had on marine cruising and travel.
“Brian has earned industry-wide notoriety for introducing new technology and connection to the sailing community,” said Gonzales. “Brian’s innovation has transformed how cruisers interact and stay in touch with one another.”
Currier was presented with a Weems and Plath time and tide clock in recognition of his selflessness and achievements on and off the water.
“Brian champions camaraderie among sailors,” Gonzales said in her remarks. “His vision for a connected and empowered sailing community is one that all sailors can aspire to, and it’s why we are so delighted to honor him today.”
Annapolis Boat Shows leadership receives submissions for the annual award from all over the country, and the winner is selected from a small group of finalists who represent the gold standard of professionalism in their selfless advancement of the sailing industry.
“This year’s awardee, Brian Currier, is a true reflection of the values on which this annual honor was founded,” said Annapolis Boat Shows’ Sheila Jones. “Brian really has enriched the sailing experience for so many – from amateur sailors of all ages to industry experts.”
The Annapolis Boat Shows Sailing Industry Distinguished Service Award was established in 2014 to honor a recipient who has distinguished him or herself through continued and unselfish service to the overall advancement of the sailing industry. Currier is the tenth recipient of the annual award.
