Build a Reef Ball

CCA Maryland’s Living Reef Action Campaign is their flagship habitat, education, and outreach program. Their mobile reef ball building trailer travels to schools, businesses, and nonprofits and invites our community to roll their sleeves up, get dirty, and make a difference.

What is a Reef Ball? Reef balls are a specially designed artificial reef unit that works great in a variety of marine and estuarine environments. They are a perfect design for creating three dimensional habitats and a great place for underwater organisms to thrive. The Reef Ball Foundation and Reef Innovations are important partners to all of the habitat work that CCA Maryland does in the Chesapeake region.

Come help the CCA team make a reef ball on Friday and Saturday of the Bay Bridge Boat Show and take part in the Living Reef Action Campaign. Roll up your sleeves, work in a team, and build a reef ball of your own. No registration required, just visit our booth approx. 45 minutes prior to the scheduled build and make your future mark on Chesapeake Bay habitat.

Schedule:

  • Friday 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm – Set up a reef ball mold, mix concrete, and pour.
  • Saturday 11:00 am – 6:00 pm  – “hatch” reef balls from the molds.
